Richard Spencer Made Me Look Up What an Octoroon Is

Hoo boy! Apparently, Milo leaked some audio of Richard Spencer's reaction to learning of Heather Heyer's death and the negative media attention it earned him. Let's say he's displeased. Slur-filled transcription under the cut.

We are coming back here like a hundred fucking times. I am so mad. I am so fucking mad at these people. They don't do this to fucking me. We're going to fucking ritualistically humiliate them. I am coming back here every fucking weekend if I have to. Like this is never over. I win. They fucking lose. That's how the world fucking works. Little fucking kikes. They get ruled by people like me. Little fucking octoroons. I fucking– My ancestor fucking enslaved those little pieces of fucking shit. I rule the fucking world. Those pieces of shit get ruled by people like me. They look up and see a face like mine looking down at them. That's how the fucking world works. We are going to destroy this fucking town.
Apparently, an octoroon is someone with one-eighth African ancestry. Really digging deep into the racist archives for that one, Dick.

The audio comes from Milo Yiannopoulos's YouTube channel coupled with a video of Richard Spencer on a podcast bemoaning the direction of the far right since the demise of the alt-right brand and the rise of the shallowly rebranded "dissident right," particularly its religiousity and commitment to voting Republican. According to Yiannopoulos, the video and leaked has been circulating among the dissident right. He claims that someone who attended the emergency meeting from which this audio comes has confirmed its veracity. Yiannopoulos also claims that Spencer is widely rumored among journalists to be a CIA asset, though that's a new one on me.

This audio can't be said to be all that surprising, but it did reveal a bit about Richard Spencer's ideology that he had tried to keep under wraps, namely his belief that slavery was evidence of white superiority. I had pegged Spencer more for the European New Right type of fascism in the vein of Guillaume Faye which denounces things like slavery and colonialism in the abstract (as Spencer himself had previously done in interviews) in order to justify itself as an anti-racist movement for whites. Turns out his ideological roots are far more American than he lets on.
